As Director of the Centre for Telecommunications and Information Engineering I am responsible for all of its research and development activities. My background in parallel computer systems, and in particular data driven computer systems, extending back over 20 years is directly applicable to modern data communication networks. These networks are essentially large distributed computer systems with many of the latency, load balancing and locality problems associated with parallel computer systems.

My recent research has concentrated on scalability issues relating to distributed AV servers and their interaction with wired and wireless telecommunication networks. This research acknowledges the imminent arrival of digital HDTV and an inevitable rapid transition from broadcast to true AV on demand systems. The research is conducted within CTIE and with other telecommunication groups and the motion picture industry

I maintain an interest in general parallel computing issues with an application driven focus
