How much does it cost to operate a hovercraft?
The operational costs of a hovercraft basically are the fuel, skirts, insurance, and repairs to hull, fans, props and engines, and don't forget an income for yourself if you want to have this. Other costs will have to be taken into account but those are rather individual for the type of hovercraft.
Weather and particularly wind will determine the fuel use and operational times for a hovercraft, for example: 2 Stroke engines use more fuel and oil than 4 stroke engines
Around 20 Litres plus for 1-2 hours with a 2 stroke engine powering an integrated hovercraft with up to 1 passenger, less when carrying passengers over water.
A larger craft with a 4 stroke thrust engine and 4 stroke lift engine will use around 8-10 Litres per hour with 4-6 passengers and/or a full cargo load.
Skirt material costs around AU$30 per metre, check with suppliers/dealers. And you will get 1-2 Full fingers from a metre and a half depending on the size of the hovercraft and 8 half fingers for a bag-finger skirt system.
Insurance can cost around AU$1,200 - AU$1,450 per year for commercial passenger insurance and around AU$300 for private pleasure insurance.
