As part of this partnership, Aerosonde Ltd. have loaned the university Aircraft#3 (now officially named "Lawrence Hargrave"), to investigate technologies such as telepresence systems from remote aerial vehicles

John is a Visiting Professor at Monash's 'Centre for Telecommunications and Information Engineering' and was the instigator and faciliator of the Aerobotics® Research Project, the relationship with the Hargrave Legacy and the Research Partnership with Aerosonde Ltd.

(recipient of the 1999 Monash Hargrave Award), Monash University Hargrave-Andrews Library, The Powerhouse Museum (home to many of the surviving Hargrave technical artifacts), The Bairnsdale Historical Society and the Dick Hargrave family of Bairnsdale Victoria Australia representing the decendants of Lawrence Hargrave
