Qualities.
- JPEG is resolution independent. Image sizes that are not multiples of 8 pixels are padded.
- 8 and 12 bit component precision modes are defined.
- Up to 255 colour components can be handled per image.
- No absolute bitrates are defined.
- Colorblind in that JPEG has no information about which components, if any, are
color. Nor, in fact, even if they are actually image components at all.
- Customisable quantization tables provide the only method of controlling DCT
quantization.
